microorganisms. Pneumonia could either be healthcare-associated pneumonia (Hospital,
nursing home) or community-associated pneumonia (environment, work place, school). Most
times pneumonia lasts for about 2 to 3 weeks but for babies, older adults and people that has
other form of illness or diseases, it can take longer and can become severely illness which
will require urgent medical attention. Pneumonia can be caused by bacteria (Mycoplasma
pneumoniae, haemophilus influenzae and staphylococcus aureus), aspiration pneumonia
(chemicals and smoke), fungal pneumonia (histoplasmosis, coccidioidomycosis),
viral pneumonia (flu influenza type A or B,)
Symptoms of pneumonia include;
. Vomiting.
. The heart beating fast.
. Pain in the chest when coughing.
. Nausea.
. Diarrhea.
. Feverish condition.
. Weakness in the body.
. Appetite loss.
. Coughing (could be greenish mucus).
Risk factors that can contribute or increase the chances of getting pneumonia includes;
. Poor nutrition.
. Smoking (tobacco).
. Having weakened and low immune system ( through HIV or medications).
. Kidney and lungs diseases.
. Older adults.
. Young children and babies.
. Heart issues.
. Flu.
Pneumonia could be prevented through the following;
. Smoking should be discouraged.
. Alcohol intake should be stopped.
. Hands should be washed regularly after visiting the toilet, before and after eating and cooking,
and after changing the diaper of your baby.
. Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing.
. Get vaccinated.
