UNKNOWN FACTS ABOUT CHICKENPOX

Chickenpox is a disease that affects both children and adult. It is a disease that is highly contagious and

caused by a virus known as human herpes virus 3 (hhv-3) or varicella-zoster virus(VAV). It is a

disease that is spread through sneezing, coughing of infected persons making it an air borne

disease. It can aslo be spread through contact with secretion from the rash on the body of the

infected person. The rash can be seen all over the body of the infected person. It starts like a

small red spots that looks like insect bite.

Symptoms of chickenpox are highlighted below;

     1.   Inability to eat well.

     2.   Severe and painful skin itching.

     3.   High fever of over 100.4°F or 38°C.

     4.   Coughing.

     5.   Vomiting.

     6.   Inability to walk properly.

     7.   Finding it difficult to breath.

     8.   Headache..

Prevention can be done in the following ways;

     1.   Vaccination.

     2.   Keeping infected persons away from the public.

     3.   Using of calamine lotion on skin.

     4.   Do not use or administer aspirin.

     5.   Do not share items (clothing) or sharp object with an infected person.

     6.   Regular disinfection of areas where the infected person have come in contact within

           the house.

     7.   Infected person should avoid contact with pregnant woman and newly born child.

The best way to prevent chickenpox is to be vaccinated. Visit your doctor if any of the symptoms

highlighted above is noticed.
